Hello Creative Friends. Today I’m back to share with you (as promised) the Winter Holiday Multimedia Collage I created using the hand-carved dove stamp from my How to Carve a Dove Stamp blog post a few weeks ago. If you haven’t read that one yet, make sure you do.
So I found some old works I had created in this class called ‘Create Christmas’ by Victoria Johnson back in 2017. Since she's doing this again this year, you can find her latest class on this very subject here.
A few years after I took this class, I came across a piece that was never finished so I was inspired to finish it using the hand-carved Dove stamp.
For this collage, I used some Holly leaves that I stamped in two different color inks to give some depth, a hand-carved flower stamp, a hand-carved stylistic tree stamp, some snowflake stamps, and the dove stamp and I also have some inks, pens, and some paint to add some fun details to the collage as well.
I started by layering on some of the Holly leaves in green ink, then some more blue inked snowflakes. I then took my flower stamp and stamped flowers in various pink and red inks onto some paper and cut them out and used a simple Elmer’s glue stick to add them onto the piece. I really like using this technique because it gives a great dimensional look to the collage. I used the same technique of stamping onto paper and cutting the shape out for the stylistic trees and the two-toned Holly leaves as well. I enjoy working in layers and moving elements any way that feels right, to see what catches your eye before I glue them down.
I then added the dove and continued to layer on more stamps that I had of greenery and painted some of the leaves in with some paint. I also added in some painted berries and drew in some line details around some of my leaves with a white Posca pen.
When I was done I had a beautiful mixed media collage and the best part was just playing around with stamps and mediums I already had.
If you want to follow along to see how I layered the elements to form this collage, check out my YouTube video at minute 26:10 and if you need a list of some of the supplies I used, I’ve provided links in the description of the video so go check them out.
Also be sure to check out my latest YouTube videos of me working through a box of 100 Pantone Postcards. I used my stamps and various inks. Making sure not to use the same stamp twice. I am happy to say that even though I started this 2022 challenge, I am going to finish it right under the wire for the end of the year.
At first I thought I would post these in series of 4 as Shorts on YouTube, but then I realized I let it get away from me. with only 12 published so I said, "F*ck it! I'm going to finish this by the end of the year no matter what!! Because it IS a 2022 Pantone Challenge.
So the easiest way was to shoot them as long form video and pack a big chunk of clips in one video. So I got busy......
You can see the one I published today right here. And the one I posted two days earlier, right here! And while you're there, please be sure to SUBSCRIBE, as that really helps me out.
I have just under 28 hours to finish my last video in this series....And I'm going to do it, by golly!
